What Do You Choose When You Are At Your Worst? What It Means To Be An Exemplar

Today I feel absolutely awful.

I woke up, feeling a piercing straight through my temple. I had so much pain that it felt like I was going to throw up. It was a challenge to even get up.

This has persisted for hours.

I didn’t want to do anything today.

I could have stayed in bed all day. Lay in warm blankets. I could have chosen not to look at a computer.

It’s likely no one would say anything, and likely wouldn’t care.

But I choose to write anyways, to continue my goal to write every day this year.

Why?

In Leadership, the fastest way to earn the right to be a leader is to live as an Exemplar.

You can say all the pretty words in the universe. You could have past successes in your careers. You could own all the symbols of respect — certifications, awards, trophies.

None of them mean anything to today, not really anyways.

All that matters is what you choose to do today.

What do you do when you get hit? What happens when the stakes are all against you? What do you do when no one is looking and no one cares?

Answering these questions will determine if you have the right to lead.

The answers have further consequences than we realize.

How you answer will impact your confidence. It will either help or hinder your morale. Your psychology will then either work for you or against you, impacting every system of your body.

This will then either help or destroy your ability to lead effectively.

Today, I Choose…

I could have easily stayed in bed today, but I won’t.

Instead, I choose to continue to write. I choose to continue to fight despite the pain. I choose to stay true to the path that I am on, even if the results won’t be optimal.

Today, I choose to continue toward Legendary.

Will you?
